Both documents include resources to support teachers.
Elementary Reporting Timelines will be shifting next year in response to concerns raised about the length of term 2 (too short), in support of changes made this year to the Year End Summative Assessment (click here) and in alignment with Ministry recommendations. The dates below do not apply to Spulukwuks or Garden City.
First written learning update – available the week of December 18, by December 22 at the latest.
Second written learning update – available the week of April 22, by April 25 at the latest.
Year End Summative Assessment – available June 27. Same format as this year.
PVPs generally request reports be submitted for their review two weeks in advance of the reports being shared with families/care givers.
Teachers have professional autonomy on determining cut off dates for assessments and how this is applied across learning areas. We hope having this information in advance will help with planning.
K̓ʷəməyɬəm (meaning raise a child in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓) - the District is encouraging all schools to have a volunteer k̓ʷəməyɬəm. The role of school k̓ʷəməyɬəms, is intended to increase a sense of belonging at school for Indigenous students through connections to the greater school community. This role:
can be filled by an RTA Member, support staff, or administrator.
is voluntary and is meant to compliment the work of the Aboriginal Success Team.
is not curricular, or cultural in nature, and is focused on the relationships that students have in and with the school.
depends on context, and is evolving, the k̓ʷəməyɬəm should be a staff person who provides Indigenous students with an additional layer of support, encouragement and/or a safer space if necessary.
If you are interested volunteering to be a k̓ʷəməyɬəm or have any questions, please email Sheila Maracle ([email protected]), Indigenous Education Teacher Consultant. On-going support will be provided by Indigenous Teacher Consultants and the Indigenous Success Teacher who supports your school.
